Youth Sport Trust The Youth Sport Trust has always recognised the importance of starting early in providing opportunities for young children to be active. The new early years programme Start to play focuses on all young children between the ages of 0-5 years and will support and complement the key objectives in the new Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

The Start to play programme specifically addresses the key outcomes and goals in the framework for the new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) standards and guidance. Through play the principles in the goals and learning outcomes from the EYFS guidance can be achieved: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication; Language and Literacy; Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy; Knowledge and Understanding of the World; Physical Development; Creative Development.

Denise Lewis is the Youth Sport Trust ambassador for the early years programme and being a former athlete and currently a mum to two young children, Denise recognises the importance of young children being active, enjoying themselves and learning through play.

Play is the magic ingredient of childhood, and the Youth Sport Trust Start to play programme will ensure that every child has the opportunity to play and have fun!

The Start to play programme is Practical Pre-School Gold Award winning product.
Active Play - Inclusive Arbour Vale School Specialist Sports College

This section of the website has been put together in partnership with Arbour Vale School Specialist Sports College, a hub school for the Youth Sport Trust, which aims to provide an inclusive vibrant school where all young people can fulfil their potential, grow in confidence and above all, be happy.

These products have been selected by Arbour Vale School and tried and tested to be most suitable for mixed abilities. The most recent partnered work is in the production of a set of Fundamental Movement Skill Cards, which focuses on Stability, Object Control and Locomotor Skill. The Cards have been produced, drawing on the expertise of Arbour Vale Sports College and clearly identify product(s) and link the product(s) to a Fundamental Movement Skill(s).

To accompany the Fundamental Movement Skill Cards, a series of Game Cards have been written, mainly using the featured products. These, again, clearly identify certain Fundamental Movement Skill(s).

The Skill Cards and Game Cards are freely available from our downloads section. Any product that has such a card is identified by the logo.
